Sea butterflies or pteropods are commonly regarded as sentinel creatures regarding the increasing acidity of the world's oceans. The level of acidification is particularly pronounced in the Southern Ocean where pteropod shells are already dissolving. These are beautiful little creatures who deserve our attention.
