For the exhibition Paper towns and abandoned places in 2024, I made an installation work that reflects on the discomfort many of us of settler background feel in response to our colonial history. Can't quite settle is comprised of a colonial style chair which hangs on a thin thread of hand-made barbed wire. The seat is woven with barbed wire. The wire is darkened with patina. The seat replaces a comfortable padded one with an 'unsittable' object. Instead of comfort the viewer finds something sharp and threatening. It was installed hanging just off the ground, casting shadows and swinging gently as the air moves around it.  Image by Jessica King.
