Wherever we go

Narryna House Museum focuses on Tasmanian colonial history. This artwork for Hidden Histories exhibition in 2020 reflects on the fact that wherever the colonial settlers went ended in displacement, dispossession and death for the Aboriginal inhabitants. My own ancestors were part of this history - I too have roots in this dispossession.

The recurring motif of the sewing needle unites the works in the exhibition - a symbol of domesticity, of home-making, or perhaps of unvoiced rebellion?
