This brooch is part of a set of works which looks at the life of the native animal the Echidna. It is one of the most common native animals found in Australia but many of us know very little about them and their habits. I was lucky enough to read lots of research articles, meet with 'echidna experts' and view some amazing data about their travels.
Please note that echidnas are a protected species of native animal and thus cannot be used for jewellery making without a permit from the appropriate authority unless you are Indigenous. I was granted a permit to collect the quills of road-kill echidnas.
These brooches are part of the artist's personal collection.
