Maria Island residency for Tasmanian jeweller

by Janine Combes | September 03, 2018

During August 2018 I have had the wonderful experience of being supported by Arts Tasmania (The Tasmanian Government) to undertake a month-long arts residency on Maria Island which is a World Heritage Listed National Park located off the east coast of Tasmania.

Over the month I have lived in a simple cabin behind the dunes with a little jewellery workshop set up nearby. I've walked, run and ridden my bike to explore the nature and history of the Island. It has given me lots of time for concept development, thinking and making- a privilege to have such an amazing place to do this thinking and making. Thank you to Arts Tasmania and the Parks and Wildlife Service for making this possible.

The resulting work will be shown at two exhibitions: November 2018 at Hadley's Hotel in Hobart) and Handmark, Salamanca Place Hobart in March 2019.  Here are some of the inspirations behind the new work.
