Nature and island environments in particular, are my sources of inspiration. The journey to reach islands and the small worlds that are contained within their shores have always held a fascination for me.
I love the contained spaces created by islands- both physically and emotionally. Being on an island provides a feeling of separation from lifes clutter. Time slows down, distractions are minimised. For me the island acts as a magnifier allowing for a closer connection with the detail contained within its natural forms.
I use recurring shapes and textures to reflect the individual organisms which make up a whole unique, miniature environment.
I make small sculptural, textured works in metal. Most of my work is made of sterling silver or recycled copper with accents of other metals or organic materials. To add colour I use 1950's anodized aluminium recycled from old saucepan lids. The inherent qualities of the material contribute to the final design.
